A prominent Ghanaian preacher, Pastor Oduro, has urged women to stop cooking, cleaning, and performing household chores for men they are not married to.
He argues that while these actions are culturally accepted in Ghana, they can lead to women being undervalued in their relationships.
Pastor Oduro pointed out that in Ghana, it is often believed that women should take on domestic responsibilities to prove their worth as potential wives and encourage men to marry them.
However, he warns that this cultural expectation can have negative consequences.
“Ladies, stop playing the role of a wife to a man who has not married you. When you do everything for him, he has no incentive to marry you. Why will he pay for the cow when he is getting the milk for free?” he stated, stressing the dangers of complacency in relationship commitments.
He further explained that when men benefit from the privileges of a committed relationship without the formal commitment of marriage, they may become complacent. Instead of feeling driven to solidify the relationship, they might take these efforts for granted, potentially delaying or avoiding marriage altogether.
