Over 500 constituents from the newly demarcated Salima Central East constituency will start the New Year with a happy face after receiving gifts from their area’s independent Shadow Member of Parliament (MP) Nasreen Khonat on Sunday morning.
The beneficiaries were those from the Group village headman Mataka in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Maganga in the same constituency.
Hundreds of children went away with a 400 grams pocket of Purity Cream of Maize Soft Porridge each while women got decent clothes.
Speaking during the donation, Khonat urged all eligible voters who failed to register in the previous phases to go and register when the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) reopen the exercise.
“I know there are people who failed to register due to different stories. However, I want to ask you to go and register because you still have a chance. This is not a campaign period but I’m here to urge you to go and register especially to all eligible voters who failed to do so,” said Khonat.
Khonat promised to put the newly demarcated constituency on the map especially if given a chance to represent it in the August House.
Idrissah Chasowa one of the senior citizens in the area thanked Khonat for the donation.
Chasowa urged the constituents to lay behind Khonat because she is a woman with vision and passion to change the area.
The area have almost 10 shadow MPs.
