The UTM’s disciplinary committee hearing for Dr. Michael Usi is underway in Lilongwe despite his absence.

It will take a maximum of 2 hours, according to our sources.

In a letter summoning Usi to the hearing, UTM Party director of legal affairs Charles Dokera Thole said the country’s vice president faced charges of behaving in a manner likely to provoke divisions in the party, among others.

A political analyst, Ernest Thindwa, says that following the demise of the party’s founder, Dr. Saulos Chilima, like other parties, UTM finds itself in an awkward situation trying to find solutions to the leadership wrangles.

In his address to scores of his followers at Mudi State Resistance in Blantyre yesterday, Usi said appearing before the UTM disciplinary committee would be a waste of time and resources as he does not recognise the new leadership.
