The Concerned Faith Leaders group has called on the government to thoroughly screen individuals entering Malawi from Mozambique, claiming that some of them might be escaped prisoners.

This appeal was made in a letter addressed to the Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ng’oma, where the group expressed concerns that the situation could pose a threat to the safety of Malawians.

The faith leaders emphasized the need for proper procedures to ensure that those fleeing into the country due to unrest in Mozambique do not compromise national security.

A large number of Mozambican nationals have been entering Malawi, particularly through Nsanje, following post-election violence in their home country.
