Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) says it is implementing a standard practice load-shedding of 2 hours from 06:00pm to 08:00pm, which it says has been in place since August this year.

This is contrary a statement currently circulating on social media claiming that the parastatal is implementing a load-shedding schedule of up to 11 hours daily.

ESCOM described the statement as fake and urged the general public to ignore it.

According to ESCOM, the parastatal is currently implementing a two hour power cut due to increased electricity needs and inadequate supply.
