State Vice President Dr. Michael Usi has come out of his cocoon to comment on his firing from the United Transformation Movement (UTM).

The party announced his firing yesterday evening after a disciplinary hearing which the vice President who once served as UTM President shunned.

Speaking in an interview with one of the local daily papers Usi confirmed of his firing.

“Seen it,” said Usi.

Usi, who replaced the late Saulos Chilima as UTM president in June this year, was being accused of behaving in a manner likely to create divisions or impact negatively on the party.

He was also accused of joining or supporting an organisation or party, other than an organisation in alliance with UTM contrary to Article 22[8] [k] of UTM constitution.

Article 22( (e) of the UTM Constitution makes it a misconduct if a member is behaving in a manner which provokes or is likely to provoke or has the potential to provoke division or impact negatively on the unity of UTM.

Under 22 (8)(k) it further states that joining or supporting a political organisation or party, other than an organisation in alliance with UTM, in a manner contrary to this Constitution, or any regulation or policy made under the Constitution was a misconduct.

President Lazarus Chakwera appointed Usi as Vice-President on June 20 2024 following the death of former Vice-President Saulos Chilima in a military plane crash on June 10 2024.
