1,535 Children Born on New Year’s Day in Malawi, Lilongwe Tops Birth Count

A total of 1,535 children were born on New Year’s Day, 1 January 2025, according to the Ministry of Health. Of these, 776 children are male and 759 are female.
Lilongwe recorded the highest number of births, with 209 children, followed by Mangochi with 126. Likoma Island saw the birth of just one child.
Last year, on the same day, 1,652 children were born, with 794 females and 858 males.
