Police in Kanengo, Lilongwe, have arrested a 33-year-old man, Enathi Ng’oma, for allegedly killing his girlfriend, Alinafe Zaniku.
According to Kanengo Police publicist Gresham Ngwira, Ng’oma is alleged to have committed the offense on November 23, 2024.
On the day in question, the deceased, 20-year-old Zaniku booked a room at a lodge in Area 25 and informed the receptionist that her boyfriend would join her later.
The following day, the receptionist knocked on the door to check on the guest but heard a male voice responding that the room’s occupant had gone out temporarily for Airtel Money transactions.
On November 25, 2024, at around 8:00 AM, lodge staff knocked on the door again but received no response. Using a spare key, they opened the room and found Zaniku—who was eight months pregnant lying dead.
The police then transported the body to Kamuzu Central Hospital, where postmortem revealed that the cause of death was as a result of severe anaphylactic shock due to a lethal injection into her left arm.
Acting on tips from well-wishers and analyzing call logs, the authorities apprehended Ng’oma in Blantyre, where he had been residing.
Ng’oma, who is from Kabamila Village, Traditional Authority M’mbelwa in Mzimba, is expected to appear in court soon to face a murder charge.
Zaniku hailed from Nankuza Village, Traditional Authority Chitekwere in Lilongwe.
