‘Disability is not inability’, this saying is slowly but surely materializing for a standard 6 learner from Chibvala Primary School identified as Cynthia from village headman Masinja, Traditional Authority Nkukula in the central district of Dowa.

Cynthia, who had her hands amputated at the tender age, trained herself to use her legs to do anything that a normal human being can do with her hands like washing, picking something from one place to another as well as writing.

In class as well Cynthia also defied all olds by emerging as one of the top performers despite her condition, according to one of her teachers who confided to this publication.

Despite all this Cynthia faces numerous challenges like lack of learning materials as she comes from a poor family.

Touched by the story, Needy Students Aid (NeSA) through its founder Pastor MacDonald Ziba moved in and donated assorted school materials ahead of the opening of second term of this year’s school calendar in Malawi.

Speaking after donating the items one of the NeSA’s members Abundant Haswell said: “We are just fulfilling the vision of our organization of supporting needy students including those children with disabilities.”

Haswell then said the organization will take full responsibility of Cynthia by sending her to reputable Private Primary School and the organization will be responsible for everything.

On her part, Fanny Magombo, mother to Cynthia hailed NeSA for the timely donation and urged other well-wishers to follow suit.

“As parents of Cynthia we are very grateful for the timely donation from NeSA. This will act as a relief to our child who was facing numerious challenges while in class such as lack of learning materials and others,” said Magombo.

Some of the donated items include; Cooking oil, Maize flour, Soya Pieces, Hardcovers, Soap, pencils and Pens.
