A 21-year-old nursing student from Edenberg University was allegedly assaulted by her 19-year-old male neighbor in Mufuchani Compound, Kitwe, on January 5, 2025.

Copperbelt Police Commanding Officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed that the incident occurred around 02:30 a.m. The victim, who had arrived at her boarding house on January 4, was alone as other students had not yet returned.

At approximately 2 a.m., she woke to find a male intruder rummaging through her belongings. Armed with a knife and an axe, the suspect threatened her life when she screamed for help and proceeded to assault her.

The victim alerted her landlord, who apprehended the suspect based on her description and handed him over to the police. Authorities have since detained the suspect, while the victim received a medical report and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
