A tragic incident occurred on January 6, 2025, when 4-year-old Paul Steven drowned in the Chiseka River in Neno District.
According to reports, Paul and his 4-year-old friend had gone to Chiseka to eat mangoes. After finishing, they decided to wash their hands at the nearby river. During the process, Paul slipped and fell into the river, tragically drowning.
When his friend saw what had happened, he rushed to inform Paul’s parents, who then reported the incident to the Ligowe Police Unit. Police, along with medical practitioners from Ligowe Health Center, quickly arrived at the scene.
A postmortem confirmed that Paul’s death was caused by suffocation due to drowning.
Paul Steven, who hailed from Matemba village, Traditional Authority Mlauli, was laid to rest by his grieving family.
The police are advising parents to ensure their children are never left unattended and should always be supervised by an adult to avoid such accidents.
