Seventy-seven people were injured in Chitipa after a church building collapsed during a heavy storm on Sunday. The incident took place at the Last Church of Malawi in Lubeni village, Senior Chief Kameme.

Mphatso Nedson, the disaster risk management officer for Chitipa District Council, said 67 people were hurt by the falling wall, suffering general pains.

Nine others, including eight children and one adult, had minor injuries and were treated at Kameme Health Centre. One woman, Agnes Simumba, 25, remains in hospital for further treatment.

Authorities are still assessing the full extent of the damage caused by the storm.
