Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA) has closed the Puma filling station in Ntcheu district for selling petrol in drums.
One of the officials from MERA, Vitumbiko Sakala, stated that although they issued a document prohibiting this practice, some places have continued to sell fuel to vendors in drums.
Mr. Sakala added that they will continue to close other locations engaging in this practice to ensure the availability of oil in the country.
In November 2024, the organization also closed three other locations in the city of Lilongwe and the district of Kasungu Kamba for the same practice.
