A midwife at Mwenilondo Health Centre in Karonga, Nathaniel Msachi, 32, is in police custody for allegedly stealing a 300-litre Haier deep freezer valued at K1.2 million.

According to Karonga police publicist Margret Msiska, the incident was reported on December 30, 2024, by the Clinician In-Charge, Eunice Mwaungulu, after discovering that the freezer was missing.

Msiska said investigations revealed that Msachi, who had access to the keys, had taken the freezer the previous day and tampered with the door lock to stage a break-in.

Police apprehended Msachi and upon interrogation, he confessed to the crime then later led the officers to where he had sold the it, which has since been recovered.

Msachi, who hails from Mwenekabe Village, Traditional Authority Kilupula in Karonga, is expected to appear in court soon.
