The Lilongwe First Grade Magistrate Court has convicted and sentenced two men to 12 years imprisonment with hard labour for the offence of robbery.

The two, Mwaiwawo Ndafera, 23, and James Makwacha, 25, committed the offence on 12th December, 2024 at Bridget Zenia Soko’s residence in area 47 as narrated by state prosecutor Sub Inspector Morton Munthali in court.

According to Deputy Public Relations Officer for Lingadzi Police Station Constable Maria Kumwenda, Munthali told the court that the duo went away with Nissan Dualis motor vehicle, plasma screen, two laptops, Genset, Bluetooth speaker and assorted luxuries and the robbery resulted in death of a house maid Princess Chinyama.

The convicts, who pleaded guilty, prayed for lenient sentence saying that they are first offenders but in his submission, prosecutor Munthali asked for a stiffer punishment citing that the convicts’ action was a serious offence in nature and inhumane hence preferred a life sentence.

“Passing his sentence first grade magistrate Imran Phiri concurred with the state and slapped the duo with 12 years imprisonment with hard labour,” Kumwenda said.

Meanwhile, the two are also facing a murder charge.
