A 26-year-old woman, Chrissy Paulo, from Makawa Village under Traditional Authority Mponda in Mangochi, has been arrested for allegedly biting off her ex-husband’s little finger during a heated altercation at Makawa Fishing Dock.
Mangochi Police Station Public Relations Officer, Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, confirmed the incident, which occurred on January 1, 2025.
According to reports, Paulo and her ex-husband, Wilson Matumbo, 48, ended their 11-month marriage on December 30, 2024, after Paulo was caught with another man. Following the separation, Paulo resumed her work as a sex worker in Makawa.
On the day of the incident, Paulo reportedly found Matumbo socializing with other women. Despite being intoxicated and with a client, she confronted him in a fit of jealousy. The argument escalated into a physical fight, during which Paulo allegedly bit off half of Matumbo’s left-hand little finger before fleeing the scene.
Police apprehended Paulo on January 8, 2025, after several days in hiding. She has pleaded not guilty to charges of grievous harm under Section 238 of the Penal Code.
The case has been adjourned to February 6, 2025, while Paulo remains in custody at Mangochi Prison awaiting trial.
