Yesterday, police in Salima impounded jerrycans and 65 litres of fuel from vendors who are selling the commodity illegally.
Spokesperson for the station Rabecca Ndiwate has confirmed the development, citing that the development follows a current ongoing operation called “Chotsa Zigubu.”.
According to Ndiwate, the initiative is not only looking at ending illegal fuel vending but also protecting the citizenry from accidents that occur due to the keeping of the commodity in unauthorised places.
“These vendors are keeping fuel in plastic jerrycans, which is contrary to the Malawi energy regulatory act, posing threats to people surrounding them,” she said.
