Police in Mzuzu have arrested a 27-year-old man, Chisomo Malanda, for allegedly having sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl at area 1B withing the city.

The suspect was arrested on January 9, 2025, after the mother made a report and the victim had positively identified the suspect as she recognised him while victimising her.

It has been established that the victim stays with her mother in Area 1B and on January 1, 2025, at around 21:00 hours, she went to use the outside toilet. While returning, the suspect allegedly pushed her back inside the toilet, covered her mouth with his T-shirt to prevent her from shouting for help, and he then forced himself on her.

The victim’s mother noticed that her daughter was having difficulties in walking a few days later, which prompted her to inquire about the issue. The victim then disclosed what had happened naming the suspect as the culprit.

The matter was reported to Luwinga Police Unit, and the victim was referred to Mzuzu central hopital for examination where it was revealed that penetration had occurred.

Meanwhile, the suspect is scheduled for court on January 10, 2025 to answer his charge of having sexual intercourse with a female child contrary to section 138 sub-section 1.

Malanda comes from Malanda Village, Traditional Authority Malanda in Nkhatabay District.
