Chiradzulu Police have arrested a 34-year-old man, Bizweck Magada, for allegedly selling counterfeit fertilizer at Chipole village.
According to police, officers on patrol received a tip-off about Magada repackaging fertilizer into Superfert-branded bags and selling it at lower prices. Upon investigation, Magada was found with three bags, two labeled Facon and one Superfert, which were discovered to contain a mix of manure, dambo soil, and urea instead of genuine NPK fertilizer.
Magada admitted to the act, explaining that he mixed 25 kilograms of manure, 20 kilograms of dambo soil, and 5 kilograms of urea to create 50 kilograms of counterfeit fertilizer, repackaged to appear genuine.
The suspect, hailing from Matiki village, Traditional Authority Ntchema in Chiradzulu, will appear in court soon to face charges.
