The Lilongwe Principal Resident Magistrate Court has granted bail to Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Vice President for the Central Region, Alfred Gangata.

However, in his ruling, Principal Resident Magistrate Benjamin Chulu rejected the defense’s request to grant bail without conditions. He set the bail at K1 million cash, with two sureties required, and ordered Gangata to report to the Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA) offices every fortnight.

Gangata spent 3 nights in police custody after being arrested on charges of allegedly forging tax documents.

A warrant for his arrest, issued by the Chief Resident Magistrate in Lilongwe, states that Gangata’s Masters Security Service company used false tax documents to bid for a contract at the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources
