South Africa has deported 600 Malawians who were previously held at Lindela Camp.
Mavuto Kalilombe, the spokesperson for the immigration department in Mwanza, explained that a riot broke out at the camp due to overcrowding, leading to the decision to send the individuals back to Malawi.
Kalilombe further noted that the deportees traveled in 12 buses, with five of the buses already reaching the Mwanza border.
Since last year, South African immigration officials have been sending Malawians and other foreign nationals back to their home countries due to improper documentation.
