The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has appointed Jean Mathanga as the party’s chief electoral officer.

According to a letter signed by party spokesperson Shadric Namalomba, Mathanga was appointed on January 1 this year.

The position was held by Gladys Ganda, who was elected at the party’s convention after Mathanga was ousted but was appointed as an advisor to party leader Peter Mutharika.

Mathanga was also an advisor to Mutharika and a former commissioner of the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
