Police at Jenda in Mzimba have arrested two men, Mavuto Shaba 42, and Nemon Shaba 46 for grievously harming Jevas Shaba, Timothy Shaba, and Suzgo Banda at Khosolo in the district over land disputes.

The arrests on January 15, 2025, follow a complaint lodged by relatives of the victims who are currently receiving treatment at Mzimba district hospital but one, (Suzgo Banda) has been referred to Mzuzu Central Hospital.

It has been established that there have been land wrangles between the people of Mapira Shaba and Mbiko Shaba since 2017. However, in the course of these wrangles, Traditional Authority Khosolo ruled that the land belonged to the people of Mbiko Shabas. This never pleased the Mapila Shabas (victims), and there have been wrangles since then.

On this fateful day, kids to the owners of the land went to the farm, at the same time the invaders went there to disrupt them with phanga knives and bows however in the course of confrontations, the rightful owners of the land overpowered the three victims who are invaders and grievously harmed them.

The issue was reported at Luwerezi Police unit where officers visited the crime scene and arrested the perpetrators of violence. The two have been charged with grievous harm and will be taken to court soon after the necessary paperwork is completed.

Police at Jenda condemn acts of violence and lawlessness in the area. Police further vow to arrest everyone involved in mob justice as it violates human rights and disrupts police investigations.

Both the victims and suspects come from Traditional Authority Khosolo in Mzimba district and are all blood-related.
