Bobii Entertainment, the management company for renowned artist Fada Moti, has prohibited Lilongwe-based singer Gibo Lantosi from creating a cover of Fada Moti’s hit song Kutali.
In a statement released on 24 January 2025, Bobii Entertainment declared that Gibo’s actions would constitute a violation of copyright laws.
“We are writing to formally notify you that you are not permitted to perform or release a cover of our song titled ‘KUTALI.’ This decision is based on the lack of proper authorization, which was not obtained for the use of our intellectual property.”reads the statement.
This decision comes after posts surfaced on a popular Facebook page, showcasing some of the lyrics Gibo allegedly used in the song, which reportedly reference ganja.
Bobii Entertainment has warned Gibo and anyone supporting the song that they will take legal action if the posts promoting the cover are not deleted within four hours of the statement’s release.
As of now, Gibo has not responded to the situation. However, the singer has a history of creating covers for various songs, including Somone by Yomaps and Tay Grin, Sindingathe by The Great Angels Choir, and Controller by Onesimus. Recently, Gibo reportedly asked Ace Jizzy to give an instrumental for his newly realeased song Dodi Dodi, which he plans to cover soon.
