MRA And Police Arrest Man At Mchinji Border For Smuggling Cannabis

The Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), in collaboration with police officers at the Zambia-Malawi border in Mchinji, has arrested a 43-year-old man for being found in possession of illegal cannabis.

Mchinji Police Spokesperson, Limbani Mpinganjira, confirmed tha arrest and identified the the suspect as Lucius Malembo, who works as an assistant for Focus Bus Service, is suspected to have transported the cannabis from Eswatini and was heading to Tanzania.

Mpinganjira stated that the contraband was discovered hidden in a luggage compartment of a bus with registration number CK 10467/MC 3011. Additional cannabis was found concealed in a 200-liter drum containing 136 pieces weighing 200 kilograms in total.

The confiscated cannabis has been sent to Chitedze Research Station for further analysis, while Malembo, originally from Misuku Village in Traditional Authority Mwambo’s area, Zomba, awaits his court appearance to answer charges of illegal possession of cannabis.
