Police in Nsanje have arrested a 29-year-old Mozambican asylum seeker, Semu Manuel, in connection with the murder of 22-year-old Yohane Ebe.
Spokesperson for Nsanje police Agnes Zalakoma, has, confirmed the arrest and said the incident occurred on January 18, 2025, in Nota village, Mozambique, during daylight hours.
According to Zalakoma, the suspect allegedly took Yohane to a grazing area before brutally stabbing him to death. The victim’s relative, Patricia Ebe, aged 34, from Nota village in Morrumbala district, recognized the suspect and reported the crime to the police.
Patricia Ebe, who had fled political unrest in Mozambique, had left her relative Yohane at home as a cattle herder. Following the murder, Manuel fled to Malawi and sought refuge at the Nyamithuthu Refugee Settlement Camp, where he was arrested.
The suspect is originally from Chilano in Morrumbala district, Mozambique. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the case.
