Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Defense, Salim Bagus, has announced that his committee will summon the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) commander for a briefing regarding the safety of Malawian soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
This comes after an ambush by the M23 rebels that resulted in the deaths of three Malawian soldiers.

Bagus expressed concern over the deteriorating safety of the soldiers and warned that without addressing certain issues, more fatalities could occur.

He suggested that a temporary withdrawal of the troops might be necessary. The committee is seeking a full briefing on the circumstances surrounding the recent killings.

Malawi lost three soldiers in the recent clashes between M23 rebels, DRC forces, and peacekeeping troops from the United Nations and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
