Two people Jeremiah Nyirenda and Philip Chirwa have been seriously injured while 30 others have escaped with minor bruises after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned at Kankholi junction along Jenda-Embangweni road on their way to a mobile market.

It has been established that on January 27, 2025, Joseph Uasman 45, was driving a motor vehicle Hino Ranger 5 toner registration number MH 10159 with 32 passengers on board heading in the direction of Embangweni from Jenda Trading Centre.

Upon reaching Kankholi Junction the driver attempted to avoid a pedal cyclist who was crossing the road, due to over speeding and over packing, he lost control of the motor vehicle, it swerved and overturned once and rested on the driver’s side on a nearby verge.

Following the impact Jeremiah Nyirenda sustained fractures in both legs, Philip Chirwa sustained a fracture in his arm while 30 others including the driver escaped with varying bruises. The motor vehicle had its offside view mirror from the driver’s side completely damaged.

Jenda Police warns against the usage of open vehicles for ferrying passengers and appeals to all road users to adhere to road rules and regulations to avoid similar accidents.
