Zambian Woman Arrested for Allegedly Stràngling Baby While Drúnk

Currently, Malawi h A 21-YEAR-OLD woman of Kawambwa, Luapula Province, has been arrested for allegedly strangling her nine-month-old baby while drúnk

Luapula Province police commanding officer Mwala Yuyi said Tamara Chola, of Yaya village, allegedly strangled Success Mwiche on Sunday around 16:00 hours.

The murd£r was reported to the police by the suspect’s friend, Susan Kaunda, 30. Mr Yuyi said Ms Chola went with her baby girl around 16:00 hours to Ms Kaunda’s house, where she took alc0h0l.

“The suspect then went behind her friend’s house, where she allegedly strangléd the baby,” he said in an interview.

Mr Yuyi said Ms Kaunda saw her friend strangling the baby, which made her call for help from the community, who assisted to rush the baby to the health facility.

The baby was taken to Mushota Rural Health Centre, where she was, however, pronounced dèad.

Mr Yuyi said the baby’s body is in Kawambwa District Hospital, where it will undergo a post-mortem.

The suspect will appear before court soon.
