Police in Neno have arrested a 35-year-old man, Dick Phiri, for possessing fuel without proper authorisation.
According to Neno Police spokesperson Rebecca Msoliza, Phiri was apprehended on January 29 after community members tipped off authorities, suspecting him of engaging in illegal fuel trading.
Investigations revealed that Phiri allegedly siphoned fuel from motorcycles he purchased at filling stations and stored it in drums for resale. At the time of his arrest, police found him in possession of approximately 80 liters of fuel.
Phiri, a resident of Kunenekude Village under Traditional Authority Kanduku in Mwanza District, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges related to illegal fuel possession and distribution.
Authorities continue to warn against unauthorised fuel trading, citing safety and regulatory concerns.
