Police in Mchinji have launched a manhunt for suspected criminals in border-lying villages under Sub-Traditional Authority Kapunula. The suspects are believed to have been receiving stolen goods, including motorcycles, from Chipata District in Zambia.
Mchinji Police spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira said the operation follows a rise in motorcycle robberies in Chipata, prompting Zambian authorities to collaborate with their Malawian counterparts to tackle the issue.
During a search of some houses, police recovered various stolen items, including three 90 kg bags of Cannabis Sativa, two solar panels, an N70 car battery, an audio amplifier, inverters, and speakers.
Among the suspects being pursued is Sauka Banda from Kapezi Village. Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as investigations continue.
