Liwonde police in Machinga district have launched a search for one of their officers, Thomas Wilson, who has gone missing while driving a police vehicle assigned to Balaka district for the recently concluded voter registration exercise.

According to an internal police report, Wilson was expected to pick up officers who participated in the registration process. However, his assigned police band bus was discovered abandoned near Liwonde Barrage on Tuesday morning.

Upon inspecting the vehicle, officers found two suicide notes, a police identity card, a key pad phone, a wallet containing K800, police boots, and a police uniform.

In response, the Malawi Police Service’s Marine Department has begun a search operation in the Shire River. Meanwhile, National Police Spokesperson Peter Kalaya has stated that authorities are gathering more information and will provide an official update soon.
