A robbery attempt in Mangochi took an unexpected twist when one of the suspects accidentally stabbed his accomplice instead of the victim.
Mangochi Police Station Assistant Public Relations Officer (PRO) Madalitso Sadik confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred when two robbers, including 20-year-old Victor Chisuse, attacked James Nansenyaname, demanding his money and cellphone while threatening him with a knife.
“As Nansenyaname resisted, one of the robbers managed to snatch his phone, sparking a struggle. In an attempt to overpower the victim, Chisuse ordered his accomplice to stab him,” said Sadik.
However, the attacker missed and instead stabbed Chisuse in the stomach, leaving him critically wounded.
A well-wisher rushed both Chisuse and the victim to Mangochi District Hospital after obtaining a police report. Nansenyaname was treated as an outpatient, while Chisuse remains admitted but in stable condition.
The police are expected to press charges once Chisuse recovers.
