Blantyre City Council has warned vendors at Kamba Market to vacate the site by March 31, 2025, as part of a redevelopment project. The council is planning to create a new, upgraded market space, aiming to improve business conditions and provide better facilities.

Mary Mpondaminga, a vendor at the market, voiced her concerns, stating that relocating could disrupt their income. “We depend on this market for our livelihoods, and the new plans don’t offer the support we need for a smooth transition,” she explained.

Vendors are awaiting details on alternative locations where they will be able to continue their businesses. With the deadline fast approaching, the uncertainty is growing for those affected by the changes.
