Police in Nkhata Bay District have arrested four people for allegedly robbing Geoffrey Manda, a businessman based at Kavuzi Trading Centre, of his K2.5 million yesterday.

Nkhata Bay Police Station spokesperson Kondwani James said the suspects are two Malawians who are Amos Manda aged 35, from the district, Alex Nyasulu aged 42, from Mzimba and two South Africans who are Marvellous Khowane aged 26 and Bnekisipho Mthembu aged 41.

He said reports filed indicate that the businessperson on February 10, 2025 was driving a Toyota Voxy from Kavuzi on his way to Mzuzu for his business.

“Upon passing Chisala trading centre, he was hijacked by the criminals who were using motor vehicle registration number PE 5259, a Mazda AZ-Wagon.

“Two men came out of the small vehicle and jumped into the Voxy and snatched his car keys. They drove him towards Kanduli Forest while manhandling him,” he said.

James said they managed to rob him of his K2.5 million and dumped him together with his vehicle within the forest.

The police publicist said one of the suspects was arrested in Nkhata Bay, while three were arrested in Mzuzu City. They were found with two loaded pistols and cash amounting to K1, 226, 000. 00. The suspects have been charged with robbery and will appear in court after paperwork is completed.
