Joyce Chitsulo, the Deputy Minister of Local Government and Unity, has formally appointed Robert Kaphiyo, 42, as the new Traditional Authority Chimaliro the Sixth of Thyolo. This follows the tragic death of Taurai Kaphiyo in a motorcycle accident in 2023.

In her speech, Chitsulo urged chieftaincy families to document their family trees to prevent issues during succession. She also advised the new chief to avoid corruption, uphold strong moral values, and prioritize development for his community.

On behalf of the district’s chiefs, Senior Chief Nchilamwela and Thyolo District Council Chairperson Charles Bowman raised concerns about the delay in food aid distribution to Chimaliro during the current lean season.
