The Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has announced the reopening of Chiradzulu Secondary School, while also directing Balaka Secondary School Form 4 male students to report back to school on February 14, 2025, accompanied by their real parents.

Ministry spokesperson Mphatso Nkuonera confirmed the development to the media this morning.

Chiradzulu Secondary School was closed following reports of indecent acts by students, which later led to vandalism of school property.

“As a result, the ministry has asked parents and guardians to pay an amount ranging from K40,000 to K60,000 to cover the costs of repairing the damage”,Nkuonera.

At Balaka Secondary School, Form 4 male students were previously sent home after being involved in teasing and bullying Form 1 students. The issue escalated when three students, who were found guilty of bullying, were disciplined by school management. In response, they allegedly mobilized other students to boycott classes, leading to damage to electrical cables in some hostels.

Following the school-wide eviction of male students, the ministry has now allowed them to return, but only if they are accompanied by their parents.

Meanwhile, the ministry has called on the public, parents, and teachers to work together in fostering discipline among students and protecting school property.
