After successfully constructing a MK68, 000,000.00 Humba Bridge in Mwanza, Jamila Construction which is owned by a woman in the name of Halima Katika has been awarded another project by the Mwanza District Council.

This time around the company will construct Chimaere Bridge which connects Mwanza District and Chikwawa District in the lower shire.

Once completed, the bridge will ease challenges of many people including learners from Kalanga Secondary School, business players who were facing difficulties when crossing Makutu River especially during rainy season.

It is reported that many people were being washed away when attempting to cross the river during rainy season.

The launch took place today in Mwanza and was presided over by a representative of Deputy Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture Honorable Joyce Chitsulo and was franked by Director of Public Works Eric Nyekanyeka, Chiefs and Community Members.

One of the community members identified as Mphatso Banda said he was happy to see the bridge under construction.

“Am really happy with the whole exercise. People around Kalanga area were facing a lot of challenges when crossing this bridge. Learners were being washed away at this area but now this will be a song of the past,” said Banda.

Speaking after the launch Jamila constriction Company Managing Director Halima Katika promised to complete the project within three months.

“The whole construction exercise started on January 14 and we expect to finish the whole exercise by March 30, 2025 and we promise to meet the deadline as everything needed for the whole project is in place as am talking to you,” said Katika.

According to Katika, the bridge project is to the tune of MK44, 800, 000 and is being funded by District Development Fund (DDF).

A week ago Mwanza District Council recognized Humba Bridge as the best project and Katika said the company always make sure there is no shortcut in any project given hence the success.

“As the Managing Director of Jamila Construction I make sure that we deliver good results to the client. We don’t compromise on quality and also good time management is our priority. We also make sure that there is good working relationship with the community,” she said.

Jamila Construction Company was established in 2009 and so far the company has worked with Roads Authority, Mulanje District Council and Blantyre City Council.
