A Malawian citizen, Stevens Prince Thengo, has filed a complaint through the Attorney General, demanding K300 million in compensation from the Immigration Department for allegedly issuing him a fake passport.
According to Thengo’s legal representative, William Chiwaya, the incident occurred when Thengo traveled to Israel on December 24, 2024, for a holiday. Upon arrival at the airport, Israeli immigration officials detained him, claiming that his passport was fraudulent.
Thengo was subsequently deported via Zambia, where he was also detained by police for two days before being allowed to return to Malawi.
Chiwaya expressed disappointment over the Immigration Department’s failure to issue a valid passport, arguing that Thengo suffered financial losses and humiliation due to the incident.
However, Attorney General Thabo Chakaka Nyirenda stated that he has not yet received the complaint.
The case raises concerns over passport issuance and verification processes within Malawi’s Immigration Department.
