The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate Court has sentenced two men, Maupo Chalemera and Innocent Banda, to 19 years in prison after finding them guilty of stealing firearms, files, and K7 million from ADMARC Malembo Depot.

According to Central West Region Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sub-Inspector Foster Benjamin, State Prosecutor Superintendent Chancy Chikhola told the court that the two, along with five accomplices, committed the crime on the night of January 29 to January 30, 2025.

During the robbery, the suspects tied up the security guard before breaking into the depot and stealing the items. Following investigations, police arrested Chalemera and Banda, recovering the stolen firearm and K200,000 in cash.

In his ruling, Senior Resident Magistrate Bracious Kondowe handed down the 19-year sentence as a deterrent to others.

Maupo Chalemera hails from Salamba Village, Traditional Authority Chiwaula in Lilongwe, while Innocent Banda comes from Kuthakwaanasi Village, Traditional Authority Makwangwala in Ntcheu.
