Blantyre Water Board’s (BWB) security team on Monday 10 February 2025 have arrested man for allegedly posing as a BWB employee.
The suspect has been identified as Gray Nantchengwa, who was caught after a well-wisher who is also a BWB customer, reported his suspicious behavior.
According to BWB Senior Security Guard Steve Makwete, Nantchengwa claimed he needed to check the customer’s water meter but failed to produce a BWB ID when asked.
The customer immediately alerted BWB’s Limbe Zone office, leading to Nantchengwa’s arrest by the board’s security team. He has since been handed over to the police and remains in custody pending a court hearing.
BWB has commended the customer for verifying the suspect’s identity and urges others to report any suspicious activity to prevent fraud.
