Opposition leader George Chaponda has apologized to Malawians, claiming that President Lazarus Chakwera made false statements in his State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Friday.
Chaponda accused Chakwera of using the government’s food aid program for political gain instead of genuinely assisting those affected by hunger.
He further stated that Malawians are facing numerous challenges under Chakwera’s leadership, including foreign exchange shortages and rising costs of essential goods.
As an example, he pointed out that in 2020, a 50kg bag of maize was priced at K10,000, but it now costs over K100,000. Similarly, fertilizer prices have skyrocketed from K17,000 to over K100,000.
