All 80 people aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Minneapolis have miraculously survived after the plane crashed and overturned while landing in Toronto.
The CRJ900 aircraft, manufactured by Bombardier, skidded along the runway with flames visible before coming to a stop upside down. Firefighters quickly arrived at the scene to rescue passengers.
Survivors described being suspended upside down in their seats before releasing themselves and dropping onto the ceiling before escaping onto the snow-covered tarmac.
A total of 18 people were injured, with only a few believed to have sustained serious injuries.
Deborah Flint, from the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, praised emergency personnel, calling their response “textbook” and crediting them with ensuring no loss of life.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
