A 26-year-old woman has died after drowning in Kang’ona river in Mponela, Dowa district.
Sergeant Macpatson Msadala who id Public Relations Officer for Mponela Police Station said the deceased identified as Chinsinsi Damaseka who hailed from Nkhuyu village in the area of Senior Chief Kayembe in Dowa district.
According to reports Damaseka left her home on 17 February 2025 without informing anyone.
Her relatives began searching for her but she was not found until the next day, 18 February 2025 at around 08:00 hours when villagers discovered her lifeless body floating in a well at Kang’ona river.
It is said that Damaseka was a mentally challenged person.
The matter was reported to the Kalipano Police Unit and detectives from Kalipano Police Unit along with a medical officer from Chizoloondo Health Centre visited the scene.The cause of the death was determined to be suffocation due to drowning.
Police in Mponela,Dowa district are urging the public to take care of people with mental disabilities to prevent such incidents.
