The police in the country have arrested two foreign nationals for allegedly keeping foreign currencies (US Dollars) without permission.
Police spokesperson Peter Kalaya confirmed the arrests, identifying the two as Honey Toque from the Philippines and Liu Cheng from China.
Mr. Kalaya stated that the arrests took place during a special operation yesterday in Area 9, Lilongwe, after search warrants were obtained through the court.
In addition, the police seized thirteen guns from other houses in the area, which they suspect do not have proper documentation.
“The two have been charged with illegal foreign exchange, in violation of Section 25, Paragraph 1 of the Exchange Control Act. The exact amount of money seized will be disclosed once the matter enters court,” Kalaya said.
The suspects ill appear before court soon.
