The opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has expressed disappointment over acts of political violence in Mselema, Machinga, where a vehicle belonging to a Malawi Congress Party (MCP) official was vandalized by unknown individuals.
DPP spokesperson Shadric Namalomba described the incident as regrettable, emphasizing that Malawi should move past violent political tactics, insults, and criminal acts, especially in a democratic era.
He has called on the police to thoroughly investigate and arrest those responsible for political violence to ensure law and order.
Earlier yesterday on 23 February 2025 , a group of people allegedly smashed the vehicle belonging to Hassan Chikuta, the MCP’s Deputy Regional Chairperson for the Eastern Region, as he was on his way to a political rally organized by the party at Traditional Authority Nyambi’s area in Machinga.
