A newborn baby, whose mother remains unidentified, has been rescued from a pit latrine at a Machinga health center, where it was abandoned.

According to Wongani Nyirenda spokesperson for Machinga District Hospital, the baby weighs 2.3 kilograms and was born earlier today, but not at the clinic where it was found.

The infant has since been transferred to Machinga District Hospital for further medical evaluation and care. Meanwhile, authorities, in collaboration with the police, have launched an investigation to identify the mother.
