Woman Arrested in Ntchisi for Alleged Abortion

Police in Ntchisi have arrested a 23-year-old woman, Magret Pitala, on suspicion of carrying out an abortion.
According to Ntchisi Police spokesperson Salomy Zgambo, Pitala was apprehended today at Khuwi Market in the district. Authorities suspect that the woman, believed to be a wanderer, committed the act at a local guesthouse where she had been staying.
Reports indicate that she allegedly disposed of the fetus, estimated to be around 24 weeks old, in a pit latrine.
Pitala, who hails from Kalirandozi Village under Traditional Authority Malenga, is expected to appear in court soon to answer charges under Section 150 of the Penal Code, which criminalizes abortion.
