The Lusaka High Court has dismissed a petition in which a Rastafarian father sued the state after Kasama Boys Secondary School refused to admit his son due to his dreadlocks.
Nathan Mubanga, the minor’s father, along with House of Rastafari Secretary General Samson Nyirenda, had taken legal action against the Attorney General, arguing that forcing the boy to cut his dreadlocks violated his freedom of conscience and religion under Articles 11 and 19 of the Constitution.
However, the court ruled against the petition, upholding the school’s stance on the matter.
