Police in Zalewa, Neno District, have launched a manhunt for unidentified individuals who allegedly stole 40 bales of brown sugar from a truck in transit.

Neno Police publicist Rebbeca Msoliza has disclosed that the stolen sugar was part of a consignment being transported in a truck, registration number SA 6151, driven by Nelson Mvura.

According to Msoliza, while passing through Tchenga Trading Center along the Zalewa-Chingeni road, Mvura was alerted by a driver behind him that some individuals were tampering with his cargo.

Upon stopping to inspect, Mvura discovered that the tarpaulin covering the goods had been torn, and 40 bales of sugar were missing.

Police officers who arrived at the scene confirmed that out of the 1,500 bales of sugar the truck was carrying, 40 had been stolen. Investigations are ongoing to track down the culprits.
